When that pumpkin pie is calling your name

Now that November is here and the holidays are right around the corner we can start our favorite hobby which is stuffing our faces with delicious snacks and food. Though that extra slice of pumpkin pie might be calling your name, bare in mind that today’s calories can turn into tomorrows regrets.

But on a serious note, what can we do to stay fit and healthy during these festive months ahead? Well there is many steps that people can take to lead a healthy lifestyle during the holiday season.

One of the things that can be done is meal logging, this is a system of writing down your meals before your day even starts. There is apps such as MyFitnessPal which is a helpful calorie counter. So go ahead and head out to thanksgiving dinner, but skip the stuffing if its not already on the pre-logged plan. You can even have a hundred calorie protein filled snack before you head out to that family dinner, such as a cup of yogurt, low fat cottage cheese and 12 almonds or half of an apple with a tablespoon of peanut butter.

Another funny yet helpful tip you could to do is “instagramming” your food temptations. According to a study done by Birmingham Young University researchers, food pics induce “Sensory boredom” which makes you feel like you’ve already enjoyed the food. Make a caption like “I’m definitely not eating this” and tag your friends on there to help you resist the urge.

Since this is the time for spending some quality time with your family and friends, why not make this a group event? Play a game of football or have a snowball fight, of course, that’s only if you have snow to play with. You’ll have great time staying in shape while creating awesome memories.

But nothing is better than committing to good old fashioned exercise, though most feel it’s series of complicated steps, it can really be as simple as getting in a regular daily run, don’t feel like going alone? Find a running buddy! Or workout in the comfort of your own home, just pop in that Zumba dvd and make it fun for yourself.

Skyline students also have a say in how they are eating during this prime eating season.

“I eat a lot of turkey, and candy yams. But I do workout super hard before the holidays and I always lose about 5 pounds before Thanksgiving.” Said Skyline student Leo Gi.

This is the best time of the year to get in shape, because it is the hardest and most tempting time. Think about it, if you can do it now, the following months will be so much easier.
