The San Fransisco 49ers got back into action, this week with a heated divisional game match up against the Arizona Cardinals losing 23-14.

The 49ers are coming of a disastrous opening home loss in week two against the Chicago Bears blowing a 17-7 lead, which led to a finale score of Chicago 28-20.

The Arizona Cardinals didn’t need their starting quarterback to beat the 49ers this week. Backup Drew Stanton played well, but once again the 49ers could hardly stay out of their own way, losing for the second week in a row partially because of a collection of costly penalties.

The 49ers had nine penalties for 107 yards a week after committing 16 for 118 in a loss to Chicago. Many of them came in key situations, including back-to-back 15-yard penalties leading to a Stanton to Brown’s go-ahead touchdown catch in the third quarter.

San Francisco scored on their first two possessions of the game and then was shutout the rest of the contest. San Francisco has been outscored 52-3 in the second half this season.

On the bright side, Colin Kaepernick threw for 245 yards and rushed a team-high 54 yards for San Francisco. Michael Crabtree pitched in with 10 catches for 80 yards and a 2-yard touchdown and, as well, Steve Johnson contributed with a respectable 103 yards on nine receptions.

“We should have two wins,” said Kaepernick. “These games were close games that we should have won.”

On this night the 49ers played well enough to win this game, just having to minimize the mistakes and penalties. San Fransisco should be able to get back on their way atop of the division.
