Niners blitz Cowboys for easy win
The San Francisco 49ers kickoff the 2014 NFL season in Arlington,Texas with a strong 28-17 win against the Dallas Cowboy’s thanks to Tony Romo’s 3 interceptions. It was a great way to start this years season and get the disappointing off-season behind them.
Collin Kaepernick and the 49ers came out blazing with Kaepernick connecting with Vernon Davis for two touchdown passes one coming right after a Tony Romo interception in the first quarter. Collin Kaepernick had a efficient game completing 16 of his 23 passes attempted with no interceptions. He seemed to be poised and making great football decisions for the team The offense was clicking with Frank Gore and the new edition Carlos Hyde running hard out the back field piling up over a combine 100 yards on the ground.
The San Francisco defense came into this game under question with several key players either hurt or suspended. Defensive tackle Ray McDonald got the start just a week after his arrest in a domestic violence case. The secondary for the 49ers stepped up huge this day causing four Cowboy turnovers. Chris Culliver played spectacular; returning a DeMarco Murray’s fumble on the second play of the game for a 35-yard fumble return for a touchdown. That was not the only great defensive play made by the 49ers this day Eric Reed also returned a 43 yard interception to the two yard line setting up a easy San Francisco touchdown.
Not just the starters impacted this game. When starting corner back Tramaine Brock went down with a apparent toe injury and Chris Culliver sustained a concussion causing them both to be knocked out of the game. Back up Perrish Cocks filled in perfectly recording his second career interception on a forced ball into double coverage by Dallas quarterback Tony Romo.
The crowd surprisingly were favoring the 49ers cheering for them and causing the hometown Dallas Cowboys several delay of game penalties due to the crowd noise. Jim Harbaugh was even asked about his thoughts on the San Francisco friendly crowd “I noticed that, it’s much appreciated it means a lot.”
This game was a great opportunity for the 49er players and organization to show that they are focused and that all the off field problems will not affect this season. If the players can keep playing hard and stay healthy this team is build to be set right back in the conversation of possible Super Bowl champs.
Heading into this week ,the San Francisco 49ers return home to prepare for their first ever regular season game in new Levi’s stadium against the Chicago Bears. It has all the makings to be a good game.
Stay Calm. Stay tuned it is just week one.
