Two San Francisco icons merge as one to create perfect harmony. Oh, too poetic for you? Simply put, the new 49ers stadium finally has a name.
Levi’s (full name Levi Strauss and Co.), the famous denim company that actually started in The City, is going to pay $220 million for 20 years for the biggest advertisement that there can be.
Of course, the 49ers got their name from the miners that congregated in San Francisco, and all over the West Coast, at the height of the Gold Rush during the mid-1800’s. Levi Strauss also moved from the East to West, and during that time made a sort of rough draft of what jeans are today. And they were hugely popular with the miners due to their durable design and the tenacity of the Levi’s salespeople.
These two brands are San Francisco icons. Yes, it will probably take time for 49ers fan to cozy up to “Levi’s stadium” (I wonder, will it have the trademark symbol in the name as well?) Candlestick is legendary as it is decrepit. The house that Joe Montana/Jerry Rice/Steve Young built will one day be demolished, and for most, all those memories and emotions will tumble with it. But the 49ers did need a new stadium, and Levi’s Stadium, from the design pictures, looks absolutely stunning. And with Florida denying money to the Dolphins to patch up Sun Life Stadium, the new 49ers stadium is the frontrunner to land Super Bowl L. Yeah, having a new stadium has its perks too.
The 49ers will be the envy of the league with their new digs. And with the upcoming season being the last in the ‘stick, it would be best to attend a game before it is turned to stores and what-not. But with the way the 49ers are playing and building the team, it looks like Levi’s Stadium will house many, many, MANY more Lombardi Trophies. Hey, they might even be at home for the aforementioned Super Bowl, (that would be awesome!)
The house that Colin Kaepernick built; Sounds about right doesn’t it?
