The women’s badminton team, lead by Coach Jan Fosberg. has played throughout the semester despite injuries and illnesses that have taxed the team’s ability to win matches. The Trojan’s badminton has worked hard to reach this point, with the upcoming Conference Finals at De Anza College on May 3 and 4 determining if they will be able to make it to Pasadena and the state championship.
“Our freshman have performed well and have improved so much since the start of the season. All of them have worked very hard in practice and matches and have been very committed. I couldn’t be happier with their efforts,” wrote Head Coach Jan Fosberg via email. “Their hard work this season will pay off next year and they’ll continue to improve and really believe in themselves.”
Many of the members of the team are freshman, new to the team, with only three sophomores on the team.
One of these sophomores is Vietnam-born Anna Nguyen, who moved to the U.S. years ago and has become the number one player on the team.
“Win or lose, as long as we can do the best we can,” Nguyen said, expressing an option that was reflected by freshman Carla Montanes, who pointed out that this is her first Conference Final and she is only concerned with doing her best at the match.
“Balancing school and badminton, the whole experience is fun,” Montanes said. “It’s totally worth it,” describing her experience with the team during the course of the season.
The badminton team is ready for the Conference Finals, where if they win, they will make it to the state championships.
