The Skyline men’s basketball team lost their second game of the season to De Anza College on Nov. 15 with a score of 46 to 63.
It was a slow start to the game but Skyline persisted and never let up. Skyline picked up the pace and executed head coach Justin Piergrossi’s plays with intent. They were able to keep the ball back and forth between the court–making the scores a constant toss-up between the two teams.
Both sides fought against each other on the field aggressively without give. De Anza had to go to the bench to pull players in this rough beginning.
A score of 28-25 displayed itself at the end of the first quarter.
Both Skyline and De Anza had numerous penalties for holding and a couple from charging, all of them were deemed “fair” in Piergrossi’s opinion when addressed.
Daniel Selsor, Skyline’s wing, constantly bounded back and forth down the court. Despite being a Freshman, he managed to steal the ball from the opposition and make shots.
Skyline withstood fouls called through the second quarter and De Anza took advantage where they could during these penalties.
De Anza was called out on a foul and Skyline was offered a 3 chance penalty shot, regaining a point in free throws.
The team took a hard hit when active forward Aaron Brown was fouled out of the game within the last 20 minutes.
At the end De Anza took over the score with a 17 point difference.
“In the future we will work on strengthening offense and defense,” said Piergrossi. He also commented on the team’s steady improvement and progress.
“It’s still early within the season and so there’s a lot of team unity to be made but the effort was appropriately displayed with the spirit and execution.”
During the second half, Skyline fought feverishly against the opposition until the very end of the quarter.
At the end of the game Assistant Coach Eddy Harris assured, “There’s a lot of basketball to be played.”
The next Men’s game is on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. v College of Marin.
