The View From Here: Welcome
Hello? Can you hear me? Of course not, you’re reading this. Now that I have your attention I would like to introduce myself. The Skyline View’s spring semester 2016 Editor in Chief is, (drumroll, please) Michelle Brignoli.
Please hold all applause until the end of this story, thank you.
I bet you’re just about as excited as I am, if not more so, for this semester. Of course it’s going to be over before you and I even know it, but before that happens I have a few goals in mind about what will remain here at TSV, even when I do not.
As always the main goal of any employee that produces a print publication is to reduce the amount of errors found in their respective paper. It seems to be nearly impossible to have absolutely zero errors, as I have learned being on staff for two semesters prior to this one. With enough eyeballs however, I am certain that the most effort will be put into catching even the smallest of mistakes that somehow slip through to the printers.
The real dream for this semester, besides eliminating all errors, is for the newsroom to evolve from a world of stress to a community of student journalists. There is no real way to measure the amount of tension that would creep in and settle in the atmosphere of the newsroom during print production nights of semesters past. The tension was sneaky, it crept up the same way the deadline did. Spooky, I know. I’m getting chills just recalling it.
It doesn’t seem like the staff and I will have a problem keeping the dreaded tension away though. So long as the communication is kept up and people know they are able to get help when they need it, it doesn’t feel like we’ll have a hard time. Just in case, I’ll knock on some wood.
Ultimately, I plan to effectively prepare the returning and new staff members so that we are able to meet our deadline as a team. This is something that has been a recurring obstacle since I first joined TSV staff. I will strive to put those midnight papers to bed, once and for all.
So cheers to you, reader, and the semester that is in store for all of us. Starting today, March 1st, there are only 60 instructional days left this semester. It sounds like a long time but I promise the amount of fun we’ll all have is going to make the time fly right by. It’s going to be groovy, I already know it.
Applause will now be accepted.
