The ballots were counted and Skyline’s new leaders have been appointed.
Kayla Razavi, newly-elected student body president, began jumping up and down in the ASSC room immediately after the announcement of her new position. After a few minutes of riding that high, she stated, “This is unreal. I felt like I was the underdog going into this.”
Experienced after being a senator for a semester, she stepped into her role quickly and confidently to deliver a message to readers, “Student body, I wont let you down.
I will be the change that I promised I would be. I will give real solutions to real problems…I just want to make Skyline a place where students feel welcome and they want to come here.”
Our new Vice President Priscilla Sanchez was appointed senator last semester after friends told her that she would be a perfect candidate. Having enjoyed her time with Skyline’s ASSC, she decided to run for a position with more influence.
“As the vice president, I want to give the whole student body a little more unity and a little more inspired to join clubs,” Sanchez said.
Andrea Garcia ran for financial commissioner after a year of experience as a senator from 2012 to 2013. During this time she also focused on student participation in campus clubs and events. Garcia took a different spin on the issue, deciding to work on the financial aspect. Thinking back on last semester, Garcia recalled that, “a lot of people would come to the ASSC for funding requests. I saw that there were some people who were really deserving of the money and didn’t get what they wanted and other people didn’t really deserve it but they got more than I thought was right… I want to see the money distributed in a different way.”
Brayan Palma has been elected commissioner of Publicity. Ryan Sherlock has been the commissioner of public records for the past two semesters and was re-elected for this coming fall. You just have to make sure you set the agenda, write up the minutes and make sure the funding for the different clubs goes through and that’s basically it,” Ryan said humbly about his duties.
Joshua Campos, Andy Chan, Nicole Harris, Charlene De Luna, Mark Pacis, Alejandra Padilla and Karla Ruiz all ran for senator positions and were all appointed. As senators, these students will choose a different focus that they find important to represent and work for on campus. Some focus on technology, food, clubs and some are just voting members.
One of the elected senators, Alejandra Padilla, said she was, “excited to be able to take part and have such big responsibility.”
