A two-vehicle accident occurred on Thursday, Jan. 19 on College Drive and Loop Road, marking Skyline’s first accident of the spring 2012 semester.
At roughly 12:46 p.m., a blue Toyota Highlander SUV and a black BMW collided at the intersection in front of the school. The details of the collision were described as follows: The driver of the BMW, which was leaving the Skyline campus, turned left into oncoming traffic while the Toyota Highlander was entering the campus.
The victims of the accident, neither of whom were seriously injured, were two Skyline students believed to be driving above the speed limit when the accident occurred. Chief Public Safety Officer Brian Tupper believes students need to drive more slowly and cautiously to avoid such accidents.
“Truly, students need to just drive slower and pay attention, or (someone should) put a three-way stop sign here at this intersection,” Tupper said. “It’s being looked into for sure.”
This is Skyline’s fifth accident at College Drive and Loop Road since Tupper was appointed Chief Public Safety Officer at Skyline in 2009. The most recent accident at the intersection was roughly one year ago.
“It’s such a wide-open intersection, but it’s always the same situation where the person turning left doesn’t see the person coming straight, and they turn right into their path,” Tupper said.
Both vehicles suffered front-end body damage. The San Bruno Fire Department had come to the site of the accident to clean up the fluids that leaked out of the cars onto the street.
