The Skyline Book store book rental program offers students affordable alternatives to buying textbooks and can help you save money.
The bookstore offers two different kinds of book-renting programs: the ECE rentals and the standard student rentals. ECE rentals, which started 10 years ago, are exclusive for ECE students; these rentals are constantly funded by the state with grants. The standard student rentals, which are funded by donations, are available to all students of Skyline.
Skyline’s rental programs have been very successful. It was even recognized as an innovative idea among the National Bookstore Association on its first year of operation.
“We give the students the option of renting their textbooks rather than buying them. [These] are the choices you, as an adult, make; it’s a conscious decision that your pocket can afford” bookstore Manager, Kevin Chak stated.
Students sometimes turn to other sellers like Chegg.com, eBooks, Amazon.com and Half.com, where students snag usually pricey textbooks for twenty dollars. A disadvantage with online sellers is a constant charge on your credit card if rented books aren’t returned.
On the other hand, the bookstore offers rentals that start as low as five dollars, as well as giving students the option of buying books at three different price points: rentals, used, and new copies. When you rent from the bookstore and have the book as unreturned, they will gladly reach out to you as long as students stay proactive with things.
This just shows that textbook rentals from the college bookstore do provide a more reasonable price for students, whose objective is to get their textbooks from the bookstore, than those of the online rentals.
Book rentals help students save 50 percent or more off the price of new textbooks which really helps those with a limited budget.
Skyline’s book rental program helps educationally and economically and gives a positive outlook on student’s effectiveness in school.
