I was excited to watch the “Penelope” series on Netflix because I had never seen a series like this in other teen dramas or comedies. This series takes it to another level by immersing the audience into a different world with its quiet but beautiful cinematic shots focusing on life and nature.
The series, created by Mark Duplass and Mel Eslyn, is about a 16-year-old teenage girl, Penelope, played by Megan Stott, abandoning her family and high-tech life to camp alone in the wilderness because of her love for nature. She experiences how to camp and tries to build a new life by herself in the wilderness. In each episode, the script follows the character with beautiful, quiet scenes navigating the wilderness. She experiences meeting new people, challenges, and life as a young teenager.
My favorite scene in the series was seeing the baby cub. I thought these scenes were adorable to see. Other scenes I liked depicted the beautiful views, music, and the storyline of the series was relaxing to see different moments of beauty. It was nice to see a teenager navigate wildlife alone and learn how she can handle it. The only negative aspect of the series was that the episodes were too slow-paced.
Overall, the series was fantastic. The audience or viewers will experience the beautiful visuals of nature and learn about the different ways of learning how to camp. I recommend this series to anyone who wants to enjoy it on Netflix or wants to try something new.
